CB&Q-BN line, Farmington,Illinois...

At one time Farmington had the luxury like Canton,Cuba and Lewistown of
having two railroads and both lines had depots at one time or another. This
blog post is about the CB&Q later Burlington Northen and BNSF line. The
depot is long gone as are the tracks now. The tracks were removed in early
2017. I imagine the passenger service like Canton and Lewistown ceased in
or around 1961. The line was built andstarted service in the 1860's and this
sub ( Yates City Sub) traveled from Yates City down to Vermont, Illinois.
Vermont to Duck Creek Power Plant in Dunfermline is still active but any
thing north to Farmington is not. This area had quite a few coal mines in it's
history which is something it has in common with many Fulton County
communities.

Pictures before and after removal...

This used to be a crossing and an area that was a wye that had tracks come off the
M&STL/C&NW line off onto the CB&Q/BN line here in Farmington by the
cemetery.
