CB&Q/BN spur Lewistown -Liverpool, Illinois.

A long time ago CB&Q later Burlington Northern after 1970 was a spur that traveled
east south then east again from a Wye off the main north of Lewistown down to the
small village of Liverpool. The line went south of Liverpool to a barge coal loading
dock. The line was built in the 1930's and  area coal mines would ship coal to the dock
here for barge traffic.  It was CB&Q up until the 1970 merger with Burlington Northern.
In 1983 Burlington Northern abandoned this line. As to how much business it seen the
final few years who know. The coal mines in the area seen many closures in the 1970's
and early 1980's. When they all shut down the line had no reason to be used.

Photo's is the Right of way off Route 24/78 west of Little America and west of the
Sister Creek Farms. Included are maps that show the line.

Pictures taken off Wright Road northeast of Lewistown in the spot the line once ran
and crossed the road. It's hard to tell by the fields now but the road has a slight hill
to indicated where the crossing once was.
